Let It Rain, an expensive half brother to Wilgerbosdrift’s popular young sire Soft Falling Rain, picked up his first victory at the Vaal on Thursday.
Trained by Weiho Mawing, the 3yo son of Dynasty made all to post a one and a half length win over 1700m.
Bred by Highlands Farm, Let It Rain, who races for Hassen Adams and Mr and Mrs Chinsammy, was a R1 300 000 buy from the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
He is the fifth winner for Giant’s Causeway mare Gardener’s Delight, who is best known as the dam of former Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain.
A son of former Highlands sire National Assembly, Soft Falling Rain was South Africa’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt of 2012.
The handsome bay, who raced for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, won his first seven races in a row, with his victories including the G1 SA Nursery, G2 Godolphin Mile and G3 UAE Guineas. In total, the champion’s eight wins included five stakes wins, including the G2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket.
Gardener’s Delight, herself a daughter of Seattle Slew mare Highbury, is also dam of the talented five time winner Splendid Gardener, who finished second in the G3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap earlier this year, and Hong Kong winner My Nephew Eric.
Soft Falling Rain, who was booked full in his first season at stud last year, sported a 2015 stud fee of R40 000.
