The brilliant racemare Tara’s Tango, a half sister to Lammerskraal Stud’s exciting new sire Visionaire, was an impressive winner of the G3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap at Del Mar on Wednesday.
Under the guidance of jockey Martin Garcia—who also was aboard for her score in the Santa Maria (gr. II) in February, which came before her victory in the Santa Margarita (gr. I) with Rafael Bejarano in the irons—Tara’s Tango advanced on the early leaders entering the bend, then encountered a three-wide wall of horses late in the turn, but angled out to find space in the stretch. The gray or roan filly passed longshot Coniah as other runners tired, then held off a late drive fromEnchanting Lady—who closed from last—to win by a half-length.
In landing the $100 000 feature, the Jerry Hollendorfer trained four-year-old made it graded win number three, with Tara’s Tango having previously triumphed in the G1 Santa Margarita Stakes and G2 Santa Maria Stakes.
To date, the daughter of Unbridled’s Song has won or placed in graded races and has banked over $730 000 in prize money.
Tara’s Tango and Visionaire are both out of the stakes placed French Deputy mare Scarlet Tango –who is also responsible for G3 Providencia Stakes winner Scarlet Strike (by Smart Strike).
The blue blooded Visionaire, who is from the same male line as current sire sensations Iffraaj, Wootton Bassett, Speightstown and Quality Road, will stand his first season at Lammerskraal this year for a stud fee of R40 000.
