Weekend double for Philanthropist

Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young sire Philanthropist has made a cracking start to the 2016-2017 racing season and the strapping son of Kris S had another weekend to remember, when he was represented by a pair of winners in two different provinces.

First of the Philanthropist winners came in the form of the Klawervlei Stud bred Rockefeller, Philanthropist’s only runner on the evening at Greyille on Friday night.

Rockefeller, who had previously won first time out when successful over 1400m, dug down to get the better of Discourse and went on to score by a length over 1900m.
Out of the General Nediym mare Generous Anna, Rockefeller had cost R450 000 at the 2015 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.

Philanthropist’s second winner of the weekend came in the form of Kenny Trix, who ran on strongly to account for his paternal half brother Barak Lavan over 1400m. Third in the Listed Somerset 1200 as a two-year-old, the Klawervlei Stud bred Kenny Trix has been the soul of consistency in his racing career thus far- he has won or placed in nine of his ten outings to date and he should not stop here!
