Smaih ridden by Frankie Dettori comes home to win The Worthington’s Whizz Kidz Stakes

Smaih, who is closely related to Maine Chance Farm’s champion sire Silvano (Lomitas), landed the spoils in Saturday’s Group 3 Worthingon Whizz Kidz Stakes (registered as the Horris Hill Stakes) at Newbury.

Trained by Richard Hannon, the 2yo Smaih has now won three of seven outings and is likely to be aimed at the Greenham Stakes next year. He looks a really nice type, and could well go on to bigger and better things in 2015.

Smaih (by promising first season sire Paco Boy), is out of Solola – a Black Sam Bellamy half sister to Grade1 winners Sabiango (G1 Charles Whittingham Memorial Hcp) and Silvano (G1 Arlington Million, etc).

His second dam Spirit Of Eagles was Germany’s Broodmare Of 2001 and this is also the family of the outstanding US filly Jeanne Jones (G1 Fantasy Stakes).

Silvano, was South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2012-2013, and currently ranks fifth on the general sires list.

His top offspring include German Derby hero Lucky Speed, the Vodacom Durban July winners Bold Silvano and Heavy Metal, and Equus Champions Aslan, Hot Ticket, and Kings Gambit.

Silvano, whose yearlings fetched up to R3.75 million this year, sports a R200 000 fee in 2014.
