13 and counting for Argonaut!
Cheveley Stud’s young sire Argonaut was represented by his 13th first crop winner at Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Promising filly, Ignition Lady, ran on strongly, under veteran jockey Karl Neisius, to break her maiden over 1200m. Lightly raced, Ignition Lady showed a fine turn of foot to reel in the front runner, and she should not stop here.
Bred by the Solstice Stud Farm, Ignition Lady is out of the well performed Jet Master mare, Start Me Up – whose four wins included the Listed Syringa Handicap.
Argonaut has now been represented by 22 horses who have either won or finished in the money from his first crop of runners (now three). Previous smart winners for the sire include debut winner Yeoville, highly rated colt Copybook, and the unbeaten Leodocus.
South Africa’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt of 2007, Argonaut won three of his four career outings. His all-too brief career ended with a dazzling five length romp in the Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes.
A son of triple Champion Sire Western Winter, Argonaut is one of five stakes winners produced by the outstanding Del Sarto mare, Aquasarto.
He stood the 2013 breeding season for a fee of R12 000.
