$50 million milestone for Trippi
Drakenstein’s prominent sire Trippi recently reached a major milestone when his progeny earnings total went past the $50 million barrier mark.
In South African terms, Trippi sired runners have now earned over R576 million!
This is a remarkable achievement for Trippi, whose progeny have enjoyed a stunning run of success over the past few months.
Trippi runners have won or placed in major feature races over the past four weekends. Last weekend, his daughter Inara became the third Trippi filly in as many season to finish second in the Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas, while the previous Saturday, Trippi colt Trip To Heaven (bred by Highlands) won the Grade 2 Stronach Group Racing Merchants.
And before that, unbeaten Trippi colt Zambezi River (bred by Drakenstein) won the R2 million Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes, while the Saturday previous to that, Trippi filly Ha Lucy (bred Wilgerbosdrift) landed the Listed Gardenia Handicap.
Quite a run of success even for a sire as successful as Trippi, whose daughter Speedy Suzy (bred by Highlands Farm) won Turffontein’s first juvenile race for the new season last Saturday.
To date, Trippi, has been represented by over 100 stakes horses, of which 48 are black type winners. He is currently third on the South African general sires list, on top of the 2yo sires log, and second on the leading sires of 3yos list.
His run of success in feature races could continue this weekend, as Trippi has Shingwedzi (Gr3 Calulo Victress Stakes) and Paterfamilias (Gr2 Vasco Premier’s Trophy) in Kenilworth’s Saturday mainliners.
