6 winners for Black Minnaloushe
Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire, Black Minnaloushe, has been enjoying a purple patch with his runners during the past seven days.
Since last Tuesday, Black Minnaloushe has been represented by six winners of seven races (his son Vino Nero won on Tuesday and Thursday!).
The stallion’s winning streak kicked off when his son Bermuda broke his maiden over 1600m at Scottsville on Tuesday. On the same card, another son of Black Minnaloushe, Black Jaguar, won his first race over 1000m impressively by 2.25 lengths for trainer Frank Robinson.
Black Minnaloushe’s son, Vino Nero, then won a handicap over 1600m for trainer Sean Tarry and owner Chris Van Niekerk. This tough and durable gelding doubled up just two days later when Vino Nero took his tally to 3 wins when successful over a mile at the Vaal.
The Greg Ennion trained Black Minnaloushe filly Black Kitten looked a picture before she won at Kenilworth on Wednesday. Rated good enough to take her chance in a feature two starts back, Black Kitten has now won four races. As a half-sister to the well performed pair of Shimmering Jet and Shimmering Flame, Black Kitten will be a very valuable broodmare in time to come.
Sire of Champion 2YO Colts Jokers Wild and Kochka, Black Minnaloushe is never short a smart juvenile. His 2YO daughter, Spanish Cat, made a winning debut at Scottsville on Sunday to stamp herself as a filly to follow.
Spanish Cat is the third juvenile winner for Black Minnaloushe – following on from Whistling Wonder and Littleblacknumber. He is currently third on South Africa’s leading sires of 2YOS list for the 2013-2014 season, behind only Antonius Pius and Sail From Seattle.
Black Minnaloushe is well represented at the 2014 March Yearling Sale. He has 7 yearlings on offer:
Lot 45 is a filly, whose dam is a winning Western Winter half-sister to the Gr2 performer Act Fast. This is the family of legendary filly, Allez France.
Lot 82 is a filly out of a Silvano daughter of the G1 mare Rhinestone. This is the great Party Time family – whose members include this season’s G1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas winner In The Fast Lane.
Lot 98 is a half-brother to 2 winners – one of whom won seven. His dam is the smart racemare Dancette – winner of the G3 Champagne Stakes.
Lot 136 is a colt, whose dam is a half-sister to the smart stakes winner Golden Bow. He is from the same family as Fillies Guineas winner American Connection.
Lot 204 is out of a four time winning Elliodor mare – and this filly is bred on the same Black Minnaloushe/Elliodor cross which produced champion Kochka. This is a great family, whose members include Equus Champions Young Rake and Along Came Polly.
Lot 227 is a colt out of a National Assembly half-sister to 3 winners. This is the family of top fillies Paita and Pirika.
Lot 240 is a half-brother to 3 winners – one of whom is this season’s highly rated 3yo, Rake’s Chestnut. Out of a half-sister to 2 stakes winners, this colt is from the same family as SA Derby hero Smuggler’s Den.
Winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas, Black Minnaloushe is a proven sire, whose offspring have won over $32 million in prize money. To date, he is the sire of 29 stakes winners – of which five are Gr1 winners.
