Another Guineas win for Collingwood Stud

Another Guineas win for Collingwood Stud

Collingwood Stud, breeders of former Gr1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas winner Sparkling Gem, have bred another Guineas winner.
This time, the farm’s Guineas winning graduate is Sea Cat, who took her tally to four wins when scoring a facile victory in Friday’s Listed Sandown Stud East Cape Guineas at Fairview. This is a remarkable achievement for a breeder with only seven mares.

Trained by Paul Reeves, Sea Cat was coming into the 1600m race off an easy win in the Listed Breeders Guineas.

Owned by all of Messrs Barrett, M Govender, S Govender, T Govender, and Mrs Reeves, Sea Cat was a tremendous bargain buy at the 2012 Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 2).

The daughter of Var cost just R20 000 – and has already earned more than ten times her purchase price.

One of 22 stakes winners for her sire, Sea Cat is out of the Hansel mare, Hansea. The latter is the dam of the smart, stakes placed filly Sound Of The Tigers as well as winners in Argentina, Hong Kong Italy and North America.

This is the family of 2013 English 2000 Guineas winner and young Darley sire, Dawn Approach.
