With the arrival of Danehill stallion & multiple Gr1 winner Oratorio in late February, and VAR currently one of the leading sires on the 2yo and 3yo sires lists in South Africa, we can with confidence say that we now have two of the best stallions in the country, standing at Avontuur. Pippa commented on his arrival and the settling in period in a recent interview with Sporting Post; “ Var welcomed him with some circumspection and trepidation on day one, but he is still the King of Avontuur and ensuring that there is no infringement on each other’s territory is vitally important. Oratorio is settling in well and already shows a predeliction for Polo mints (just like VAR) and really loves apples too.
When taking the pics, he had to be chased around a bit as he is relaxing into his new home and didn’t seem to want to exert himself too much on a warm summer day! According to Pippa, he’s easy-going and used to being handled and enjoys being with people, which are great positives when working with him. We are therefore taking lots of care with the settling in process and getting to know Oratorio as we go along”.

Oratorio already has 75 mares booked to him and we hope to get a full house of 120 whilst VAR is fully booked. Exciting matches to look forward to with Oratorio include Jet Trail, Sarabande, All Afire, Baltic Beauty and possibly River Jetez and Minelli. The 2013 service fees for both stallions have been announced. VAR: R120 000 ex VAT. Oratorio: R80 000 ex VAT.
