Highlands Farm’s blue blooded young stallion Antonius Pius has made a superb start to his South African stud career. It got better for the young sire on Friday, when his very talented daughter Yoshie beat a smart field of colts to win the Listed Dahlia Plate.
She is the second feature race winning daughter produced by Antonius Pius from his first local crop of 2yos. The Gr2 The Debutante winner My Sanctuary having preceeded Yoshie.
Bred by Milkwood Stud, Yoshie has now won three of her four starts, and looks a great prospect for next season.
Remarkably enough, Yoshie emulated her dam, Blushing Fairy, who won the Dahlia back in 2002. Yoshie’s second dam, Tarn Fairy, was second in the Dahlia back in 1996.
This is tremendous three generation success story.
Antonius Pius’ first crop has now produced six winners, two of whom are stakes winners. His initial crop of juveniles have now earned over R670 000 in prize money.
Understandably, the son of Danzig’s stock have also proven popular in the sales ring following his success. At the recent 2013 National Sale, a colt by Antonius Pius sold for R550 000 (off a service fee of R15 000), while at this year’s Cape Premier Sale (Book 1), another son of the stallion was knocked down for R700 000.
