Blue blooded Mambo’s family continues to feature

Moutounshoek’s exciting young stallion Mambo In Seattle comes from a family which is continuing to make headlines.
Not only is Mambo in Seattle a son of one of Mr Prospector’s very best sons, but his second dam (Weekend Surprise) and third dam (Lassie Dear) are two of the finest broodmares in the stud book.

Discreet Dancer, recent winner of the Gr2 Gulfstream Park Handicap and a potential leading handicapper in North America this year, numbers the well bred Lassie’s Lady as his third dam. Lassie’s Lady, in turn, is a half-sister to the great broodmare Weekend Surprise – second dam of Mambo in Seattle.

Another member of this prolific family is the talented Sky Kingdom, who is set to compete in one of North America’s oldest, and most prestigious turf events this weekend – the San Juan Capistrano Handicap.
Formerly a Gr1 contest, the San Juan Capistrano has been won by such champions as Kotashaan (Horse of the Year), Lemhi Gold (Champion Older Male), and John Henry (multiple Horse of the Year).

Sky Kingdom, a previous winner of the Gr3 Tokyo City Cup, is out of a full sister to Mambo In Seattle.

Yet another member of this family to make an impact this season is local sire Tiger Ridge.

The latter, whose progeny also include this season’s G1 Sansui Summer Cup hero Wagner, is the sire of Cherry On The Top, who is bidding to become just the second horse ever to win South Africa’s Triple Tiara.  She is one of ten fillies set to compete in the R750 000, Gr2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks, which will be run at Turffontein on April 27th.

To date, Cherry On The Top, who has won three feature races to date, has earned over R1 300 000 in prize money.

Mambo In Seattle, one of more than 70 stakes winners for the great sire Kingmambo, was touched off the shortest of short heads in the 2008 Gr1 Travers Stakes by multiple G1 winner Colonel John (himself now a promising young sire in North America).

Well supported in his first few seasons at stud, Mambo In Seattle has his first yearlings on the ground – and they have attracted plenty of praise from knowledgeable judges.

Yearlings by “Mambo” on offer at next week’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale include a colt out of the smart racemare Mat Gold, a half-sister to G2 winner Winterinthewoods, and half-brothers to such stakes winners as Burmese Cat, Time Goes By and Star Finder.
