Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi, who made history earlier this year, made the news once again this weekend.
Trippi’s 2yo son Flying Myth made a sparkling debut when he won Saturday’s Listed Betting World Mpumalanga Win A Car Draw Storm Bird Stakes at Turffontein.
Despite racing green, the Klawervlei Stud bred colt dug down deep to get the best of regally bred Rivarine by a long neck, and to win a feature race at the first time of asking –no easy feat.
Flight Myth, who gave Trippi his 61st individual stakes winner, stopped the clock in a time of 56.43 for the 1000m trip.
One of six winners on the day for leading jockey S’Manga Khumalo, Flying Myth, who hails from the powerful Sean Tarry yard, cost owner Chris Van Niekerk R800 000 at last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Flying Myth, who looks destined for bigger and better things, is the latest top class two-year-old sired by Trippi.
The latter’s past 2yo stars include a host of top class stakes winners and G1 performers including Afrikaburn, For The Lads, R Heat Lightning, Hammies Hooker, Franny, and record breaking Royal Ascot winner Jealous Again.
Trippi once again has some very promising juveniles representing him this season including the above mentioned Flying Myth and impressive debut winner Water Lily Lake, as well as a number of blue blooded babies who have yet to race.
The handsome son of End Sweep is well represented at the two upcoming yearling sales, with Trippi’s sole lot on offer at the March Yearling Sale being a filly out of a winning three parts sister to Horse Of The Year Yard-Arm and from the same family as recent G2 Betting World Gauteng Guineas winner Abashiri.
Trippi’s nine lots at next month’s National Yearling Sale include some truly exceptionally well bred yearlings, including a filly whose stakes winning dam is out of Horse Of The Year Ilha Da Vitoria (Lot 142), a full brother to triple G1 winner Inara (Lot 224), a colt out of a Fillies Guineas winning daughter of champion sire Fort Wood (Lot286) and a colt whose dam is a daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Sadler’s Wells and G1 winner Necklace –making the dam of the colt on sale a three parts sister to European champions Kayf Tara and Opera House (Lot 301).
