Byword yearlings hit the heights

Mauritzfontein Stud’s young sire Byword proved very popular at last week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Offspring of the former Royal Ascot winner fetched up to R2 000 000, with Byword’s seven yearlings sold fetching R3 945 000.
Byword’s yearlings averaged an impressive R563 571, which is an impressive achievement for such a young stallion.

This is certainly a great return on his R30 000 stud fee!

Top priced Byword was lot 254, a colt named True Words, who was knocked down to Mayfair Speculators for R2 000 000. Consigned by Highlands Farm (as Agent), the attractively coloured colt is out of G1 SA Fillies Classic runner up Kalami.

Byword, whose half brother by Frankel was recently named Finche, was France’s Champion Older Male in 2010.

A half brother to multiple G1 winner Proviso, Byword’s seven wins included six black type races including the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.
