Cap Is “Alright”

Cap Is “Alright”
The Normandy Stud bred, Cap Alright, took his prize money to just under R1 000 000 when he won Saturday’s Listed Val De Ra Southeaster Sprint.
It was the second time that the huge gelding had won the 1100m sprint, having prevailed in the Southeaster in 2011.

Given a great ride by Piere “Striker” Strydom, Cap Alright had to use all his considerable reserves of courage to prevail in a thrilling three horse finish, with just a short head separating Cap Alright from runner up Casual Var, with Tevez beaten another short head into third place.

Now a nine time winner, last season’s Gr2 Merchants winner Cap Alright, owned by Etienne Braun, Paul Loomes and breeder Veronica Foulkes, was a R120 000 buy at the 2009  Equimark Ready to Run Sale. The subject of keen Mauritius offers, Cap Alright’s owners elected to keep him in South Africa, and he continues to shine in Cape’s sprint features.

One of 43 stakes winners for leading sire Captain Al, Cap Alright was produced by the now deceased Centenary mare, Second Chance.
Second Chance certainly did Normandy proud, not only producing the Gr2 winning Cap Alright, but also 11 time winner Second Fortune. The latter went on to do dressage with Alan Greeff’s daughters.

Second Chance’s National Assembly daughter, Upper House, has also enhanced the family’s value, producing the classy Dupont filly, Penthouse and seven time winner, White House. Penthouse won the top-class Zimbabwe sprint, the HRIB Gold Cup Sprint.

Cap Alright’s third dam is the highly influential Normandy matron, Terpsichore – whose descendants include the Equus Champions Winter Solstice (Horse Of The Year) and Mother Russia, as well as the recently retired Bravura.

Normandy Stud, breeders of the aforementioned Mother Russia, Bravura and Winter Solstice, have six yearlings on sale at the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 1), and act as agent for three other yearlings.

Among the Normandy draft are a Trippi half-brother to classy Gr3 winner Depardieu, a Count Dubois colt whose dam is a Silvano half-sister to champion Tatler, and a Trippi out of Helena –  high-class stakes winner of five.
