CAPE STAR ROMPS IN DUBAI

CAPE STAR ROMPS IN DUBAI
Soft Falling Rain, last season’s Equus Champion 2yo colt, made a winning debut in Dubai on Thursday evening.
The star colt, who had to concede weight to his 13 rivals, ran out an impressive two and a half length winner of the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial.

In the process, Soft Falling Rain (unbeaten in five career outings) stamped himself as the horse to beat in the UAE 2000 Guineas – a race his trainer, Mike de Kock, has previously won on four occasions. The UAE 2000 Guineas will be run at Meydan on February 14th.

Bred by Highlands Farm, Soft Falling Rain won all four of his starts in South Africa as a 2yo. He ended his juvenile campaign with a facile, four and a half length win in the G1 SA Nursery – a victory which ensured Soft Falling Rain the Equus Award.

Owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Soft Falling Rain was a R350 000 purchase at the 2011 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

He is one of 70 stakes winners sired by the now pensioned stallion, National Assembly. Of these 16 are Gr1 winners.
His dam, Gardener’s Delight, is a winning daughter of Giant’s Causeway from an outstanding family whose members include Kentucky Oaks winner Gal In A Ruckus and Breeders Cup winner, Eldaafer.
