Catalogue for National Sale online

The catalogue for South Africa’s premier yearling sale, the 2016 National Yearling Sale, is now online and can be viewed at
The National Sale, which will take place at the TBA’s Germiston Complex this year from April 27-29th, is South Africa’s oldest and most successful thoroughbred auction.



Many of the finest thoroughbreds ever to race in South Africa, with recent graduates continuing to win at the top level, both locally and abroad.
On the very long honour roll of top class horses sold at the National Sale are the likes of Legislate and Futura (both recent Horse Of The Year winners, whose sensational sire Dynasty was another National Sale graduate), as well as fellow champions/G1 winners All Is Secret, Aslan, Bold Silvano, Ebony Flyer, Gypsy’s Warning, Kildonan, Noordhoek Flyer, Potent Power, Princess Victoria, Shea Shea, Smart Banker and Vercingetorix-to name just a few.

Recent G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate hero Legal Eagle (bred by Avontuur), who has now earned over R2.79 million, was a R425 000 from the 2013 National Sale, while Saturday’s brilliant G2 Betting World Gauteng Guineas winner Abashiri (bred by Lammerskraal) was a R400 000 buy from the 2014 sale.

No fewer than 453 yearlings have been catalogued for the 2016 sale, with South Africa’s top breeders and sires handsomely represented in this quality catalogue.



Leading sires Captain Al (17), Dynasty (14),Fort Wood (10), Kahal (21), Silvano (23), Trippi (9),Var (28) and Western Winter (3) are all well represented on the National Sale, which exciting will also offer buyers the chance to acquire stock by such outstanding international stallions as High Chaparral, Lope De Vega and Tapit.

Exciting young stallions represented by their first South African crop of yearlings at the National Sale include Await The Dawn (10), Byword (13), Crusade (25), Eightfold Path (8), Irish Flame (3), Marchfield (5), Oratorio (18) and Twice Over (13).

The catalogue is also packed with top class racemares and producers. There are siblings to 16 Grade One winners, including Athina, Copper Parade, Gulf Storm, Heavy Metal, Inara, In The Fast Lane, Irish Flame, Ivory Trail, Legislate, Let’s Rock ‘N Roll, Master Sabina, On Her Toes, Orbison, Princess Victoria, Rabiya, and Wagner.

No fewer than 19 G1 winners are represented in the catalogue –Bambina Stripes (Oratorio filly), Circle Of Life (Philanthropist colt), Colonial Girl (Sail From Seattle filly), Covenant (Var colt), Escoleta Fiz (Twice Over filly), Field Flower (Var filly), Flirtation (Dynasty colt), Happy Archer (Kahal colt), Ilha Da Vitoria (Silvano colt), Imperious Sue (Dynasty filly), Laverna (Fort Wood colt), On Her Toes (Gimmethegreenlight filly), Pacific Blue (Crusade colt), Princess Victoria (Silvano filly), Rat Burana (Tiger Ridge colt), Royal Fantasy (Silvano colt), Stratos (What A Winter colt), Viva Maria (Judpot colt) and Wonderful World (Judpot colt).
