Classy first foals for Queen’s Plate star

Varsfontein Stud’s magnificent young sire, Gimmethegreenlight, proved very popular during his first season at stud. Fully booked, Gimmethegreenlight’s first foals have arrived this season  – and, judging by the appearance of these youngsters, Gimme looks set to be as popular in his second season as he was in his first!

He covered some outstanding mares – as seen by his son out of Secret Mission. He also has fillies out of Perfect Polly (dam of champion Along Came Polly), Pimento (a half-sister to Oaks winner Sabina Park), and Whatsinakiss (dam of the Grade One performer Kiss Again).

Like leading sire Jet Master, Gimmethegreenlight won South Africa’s greatest one mile race – the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.
In winning the prestigious feature, Gimmethegreenlight became the first 3yo in 40 years to win the Queen’s Plate.
He also claimed the scalp of dual Horse of the Year Variety Club in process – and Gimmethegreenlight is the last horse to have defeated that might Var son over 1600m.

A brilliant juvenile, who won his first four starts, Gimmethegreenlight won six races and over R1 600 000 in prize money.

A superb looking specimen, Gimme has the pedigree to match his race record and physique.
He is a son of world leading sire More Than Ready, whose 118 stakes winners include three Breeders Cup winners, and two Golden Slipper winners. He is also the sire of USA’s sensational 3yo of 2013 – Verrazano, while another son, Sebring, is one of Australia’s most exciting young sires.

Gimmethegreenlight, like champion sire Redoute’s Choice, is out of a daughter of former Golden Slipper winner Canny Lad. His dam, Yes She Can Cancan, is one of just a handful of mares to have bred two G1 winners – she is also the dam of top Australian filly, Ofcourseican – who won the G1 Coolmore Classic.

Gimmethegreenlight will once again stand for a fee of R20 000 in 2013.
