Exciting sire well represented on National Sale

One of the best bred and most talented racehorses of his generation will be represented by his first yearlings this season.
The horse in question is Moutonshoek’s resident stallion Mambo in Seattle. His first crop has been widely praised by many of the best judges in the business, and this sire has certainly plenty going for him.

A stakes winner of four races, Mambo In Seattle was beaten the shortest of short heads when a winner in all but name of the Gr1 Travers Stakes – North America’s Midsummer Derby.

The Travers has been won some of the legends of the sport – with winners including Man O’War, Native Dancer, Damascus, Buckpasser, Alydar and Bernardini. All of whom subsequently became successful and influential at stud.

Another champion to win the Travers Stakes is leading sire Lemon Drop Kid – a three parts brother to Mambo In Seattle. Both are sons of Kingmambo, and both are descendants of the great broodmare Lassie Dear (second dam of Lemon Drop Kid and third dam of Mambo In Seattle).

Mambo In Seattle is out of a full sister to champion US sire A P Indy, the sire of over 140 stakes, and a hugely successful sire of sires. His dam is also a half-sister to Preakness winner and top sire Summer Squall, as well as leading SA sire Tiger Ridge (sire this season of the Gr1 Sansui Summer Cup winner Wagner).

Mambo In Seattle is from the family responsible for producing such successful South African sires Al Mufti and Sportsworld, as well as champion US sire Raja Baba.

His sire, Kingmambo, was a champion miler, who went on to enjoy a tremendous stud career. Now retired from stud duties, Kingmambo is the sire of over 70 stakes winners including champions Divine Proportions, El Condor Pasa, Rule Of Law and Russian Rhythm. He is also sire of world leading sires Henrythenavigator, King Kamehameha and King’s Best and damsire of last season’s European champion, Camelot.

With all this going for him, Mambo In Seattle has, not surprisingly, been well supported since landing in South Africa in 2010.

He has a large draft of 24 yearlings on offer at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. Mambo’s yearlings include siblings to stakes horses Lucky Moon, Star Finder, Winterinthewoods, and Burmese Cat (by Mambo’s close relative Tiger Ridge).

He also has a half-brother to the very promising 2yo My Sanctuary on offer, as well as a colt out of the six times stakes winner, Mat Gold.
