First Marchfields on sale in South Africa

Moutonshoek’s well performed young stallion Marchfield will be represented by his first South African yearlings this season.
The multiple champion son of the great A P Indy is represented on both next week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale and next month’s Val De Vie Yearling Sale.



Marchfield, who earned more than $1 000 000 during a career which saw him campaign at the top level from two to five, has two lots on sale at the Cape Premier Sale, which takes place at the CTICC on January 21st and 22nd.

First of the Marchfield yearlings on sale is lot 32, a colt out of the Elliodor mare Move To The Stars. This colt is a half brother to four winners including talented but ill-fated feature race contender Meissa. This is the family of Met winner Arctic Cove (like this colt sired by a Bold Ruler line horse), as well as champions Flobayou and Renounce.

Second Marchfield yearling on offer at the CPYS sale is lot 116. This bay colt is a half brother to 3 winners including G2 Sceptre Stakes runner Night In Tahiti. Inbred to the mighty Mr Prospector, this colt’s second dam is Argentinian G1 performer Touch Dancing, by champion sire and broodmare sire Southern Halo.

Marchfield, whose relatives include leading sire Harlan’s Holiday (an increasingly influential sire of sires in the US) and Ride The Rail (sire of top US sire Candy Ride) has a strong draft at the Val De Vie Sale as well.
His 12 lots include:

Lot 20 – a half sister to a winner, this filly is out of a mare by Al Mufti (a horse closely related to A P Indy). This filly is from the wonderful Party Time family, responsible for such top class fillies as lasr season’s G1 winner Chestnuts N Pearls, as well as Eligible, Lambarina, Sally Bowles and former Equus Champion In The Fast Lane.

Lot 24 – a half brother to 2 winners, this colt is out of a half sister to a US stakes winner and is inbred to both Mr Prospector and Secretariat.

Lot 33 –a half brother to a 3 time winner, this colt is out of a three parts sister to this season’s G3 Fillies Mile winner Negroamaro. His second dam is champion Donatella, whose 7 wins included the G1 SA Fillies Guineas.

Lot 35 –another inbred to both Mr P and Secretariat, this filly is out of a mare who won three and whose relatives include the G1 winning fillies On Her Toes and Savannah Queen. Her third dam is Broodmare Of The Year Pretty Falcon.

Lot 47 – a half brother to a winner, this colt’s dam is a Jet Master half sister to a G3 winner of six and this is the family of champion Night Diva, herself responsible for promising filly Christmas Carol.

Lot 59 – this filly is out of a half sister to stakes winner Monterey Star, and hails from the family of classy fillies Follow The Piper, Katy’s Lane and Poetic.

Lot 66 – this well bred colt is out of a half sister to G3 winner Pirate’s Gold with his relatives also including G1 Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Captain America. Traces back to the great tap root mare Queen Of Light.

Lot 67 – this filly is inbred to all of Mr P, Northern Dancer and Secretariat. Her dam is winning daughter of G3 performer Blue Lace Agate with her third dam being G1 placed G2 Majorca Stakes winner Wild Aster.

Lot 74 –out of a half sister to feature race winner Code Rock, this colt’s relatives include former champion 2yo colt Special Preview and ill-fated G1 Mainstay 1800 hero Military Muse.
Lot 75 – a direct descendant of mighty broodmare Drohsky, this filly’s dam is a half sister to G1 Summer Cup hero Ingleside, with her fourth dam being SA Oaks winner Sea Mist.

Lot 77 – out of a mare by world class broodmare sire Saumarez (damsire of Derby winners Authorized and Gentlewave), this filly’s relatives include star filly Pacific Blue and her three parts G2 winning brother Western Walk.

Lot 88 – a half sister to a winner, this filly’s dam, by world leading sire and broodmare sire Rahy, is a half sister to a US stakes winner. From the family of US G2 winner and G1 sire Sightseeing, this filly is a direct descendant of one of history’s greatest broodmares –Lady Be Good.

Lot 91 – inbred to broodmare great Lassie Dear, this colt’s dam won three and is a granddaughter of G1 performer and producer Eligible. The famed Party Time family responsible for recent US G3 winner Consumer Credit as well as champions In The Fast Lane and Trademark.

Lot 99 – this colt is intriguingly inbred to the outstanding sire Red Ransom. His second dam is a stakes winner of four in the USA and this is the same family as 2015 US G2 winner Red Rifle.
