First SA foal for Marchfield
Moutonshoek’s exciting young stallion Marchfield was represented by his first South African born foal recently, when the well performed Kitti Cat (who won the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint) gave birth to this very attractive filly.
Moutonshoek’s Bennie Van Der Merwe was thrilled by the foal, saying” She is a very smart individual – and is the first foal of the stakes winner Kitti Cat. The filly is nice and leggy, with good bone and is very correct.”
Marchfield, whose first Northern Hemisphere crop have been in great demand and have sold up to $470 000, was well supported in his first season in South Africa.
The dual champion covered a number of classy stakes winners and producers last season, with Marchfield’s first local book including the stakes winners Sharp Ledge and Slinky Malinky, as well as siblings to such standout performers as Arabian Lass, Floatyourboat and Surveyor.
A dual Canadian Champion, Marchfield earned over $1 000 000 during a racing career which saw him win or place in nine stakes races.
Marchfield, himself a classic winning 3yo, is one of over 150 stakes winners for his champion sire A P Indy. The latter is widely regarded as one of the most influential stallions to ever stand in North America, with his male line descendants including the outstanding sires Tapit, Pulpit, Bernardini, Mineshaft, and local sensation Judpot.
Marchfield hails from an exceptional female line, with his dam, Pico Teneriffe, Canada’s Broodmare of the Year in 2009.
A really exciting young prospect, whose relatives include the leading sires Ride The Rails, Harlan’s Holiday, Cryptoclearance, Home Guard and Peaceable Kingdom, Marchfield will stand for a fee of R25 000 in 2014.
