The well bred and attractive Lateral will be represented by his first crop of yearlings at the 2012 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
A top-class racehorse, Lateral was named a champion at two and three. He was Italy’s champion 2yo colt, after an unbeaten campaign in which he won the country’s only G1 event for juveniles – the Gran Criterium. This race has been won previously by such legends as Donatello II, Nearco and Ribot. Another Gran Criterium winner is successful South African sire, Count Dubois.
Lateral went onto enjoy a highly successful 3yo campaign, which saw him named champion 3yo, and champion miler, in Germany. The highlight of his 3yo career was a six length romp in the G2 Grosse Europa- Meile, where he accounted for a high-class field with ease.
A very consistent colt, Lateral won or placed in nine of his ten career outings.
He is the only son of world champion Singspiel currently standing at stud in South Africa. A half-brother to Jet Master’s sire Rakeen, Singspiel was a tremendous racehorse, whose wins included scores in the Dubai World Cup, Juddmonte International, Japan Cup and Coronation Cup. At stud, Singspiel sired over 80 stakes winners, including the G1 winners Confidential Lady (Prix de Diane), Moon Ballad (Dubai World Cup), Lahudood (Breeders Cup F & M Turf), Papineau (Gold Cup), Singhalese (Del Mar Oaks), Potala Palace (Premier’s Champion Stakes), Eastern Anthem (Dubai Sheema Classic) and Hibaayeb (Fillies Mile) . A son of Singspiel, Lohengrin, is the sire of Japan’s Champion 2yo colt for 2012, Logotype.
Lateral is a half-brother to five winners, and is out of a stakes winning mare. He is a direct descendant of the great German racemare, Liebeslied – who won both the German Oaks and 1000 Guineas.
Standing at Maine Chance Farms, Lateral has two yearlings on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale:
Lot 14 – is a half-sister to two winners. Her dam, by champion sire and broodmare sire Monsun, is a half-sister to the Gr1 winner Paita. Paita, in turn, is the dam of Monsun’s top-class daughter Pirika – thus the filly on offer is out of a three parts sister to Pirika. Her second dam is the Gr3 winner Parada.
Lot 69 – is a half-brother to last season’s brilliant 2yo filly, Straight Set. The latter beat champion All is Secret in the Gr2 Debutante Stakes, and then was second in three G1 races.
This colt’s dam is a half-sister to G1 Queen’s Plate winner, and sire, Crimson Waves.
