The Alchemy’s well performed young sire Gitano Hernando got a handsome update to his pedigree when his half brother Battersea scored a smashing victory at Meydan on Thursday.
Bred by Newsells Park Stud and trained by Roger Varian, Batterea ran on strongly to get up to nab Paene Magus and prevail by a short head.
His trainer was delighted by Battersea’s win, saying, “”We have always liked this horse and will step him up in class for his next outing.”
Battersea has now won or placed in six of 11 outings and looks unlikely to stop here. By Galileo, the five-year-old entire is out of the top class racemare Gino’s Spirits, whose nine wins included the G3 Noble Damsel Handicap and four other stakes victories.
The daughter of Perugino (Sadler’s Wells’ Danzig half brother) was placed in a further four black type races including the G2 (now G1) Sun Chariot Stakes.
His half-brother Gitano Hernando was an outstanding racehorse and multiple G1 winner who earned over $2 000 000 in prize money.
From the same Niniski male line responsible for champion sire Silvano and the latter’s very promising son Bold Silvano, Gitano Hernando’s seven wins included the G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup and G1 Goodwood Stakes.
The handsome chestnut has two lots on offer at next week’s Val De Vie Yearling Sale:
Lot 83 – this colt is out of the talented Windrush mare Promises to Keep, whose 4 wins included the G3 Diana Stakes. A member of the great Drohsky family, Promises to Keep is a half sister to the lightly raced but hugely talented Speed Rocket.
Lot 118 – inbred to the great Danzig (as are more than 30 G1 winners), this filly is a half sister to 2 winners and is out of a four time winning three parts sister to G3 winner Sharp Design. From a very fast family, this filly’s second dam is top class sprinter Sharp Ledge.
