Gitano Hernando in fine fettle
The Alchemy’s well performed young stallion Gitano Hernando is looking magnificent – and is clearly more than ready to begin his third season at stud.
A striking chestnut, Gitano Hernando (whose first foals were born this season) has let down into a really imposing stamp of a horse, and he certainly lacks for nothing in credentials.
Gitano Hernando was a top-class racehorse, who won over one million pounds on the track. He won seven races, up to 2200m, and accounted for such high-class performers as Mine That Bird (Gr1 Kentucky Derby), Colonel John (Gr1 Travers Stakes), Richard’s Kid (Gr1 Pacific Classic – twice), Crowded House (Gr1 Racing Post Trophy), Vision D’Etat (Gr1 French Derby), and Presvis (Gr1 Dubai Duty Free), to mention but a few.
Gitano’s seven wins included scores in the Gr1 Goodwood Stakes, Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup, and Gr3 Diamond Stakes.
Like outstanding South African sires Silvano and Dancing Champ, Gitano Hernando is a direct descendant of British Triple Crown winner and champion sire Nijinsky II.
He is a son of French Derby winner, and successful sire Hernando, sire of the Group One winners Casual Conquest (Tattersalls Gold Cup), Look Here (Epsom Oaks), Sulamani (French Derby), Gitano Hernando, and Holding Court (French Derby), to mention a few.
Gitano Hernando is from a powerful female line, and is a direct descendant of the tap-root mare, Admiration. The latter is the dam of one of the greatest mares in history Pretty Polly, whose 22 wins included the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and St Leger.
Gitano Hernando’s dam, Gino’s Spirits, was a smart racemare in her own right, winning 9 races, including the Gr3 Noble Damsel Handicap. Her granddam, Mrs McArdy, won the English 1000 Guineas, and has become the ancestress of a flood of stakes winners, including Champion 2YO Colt, Admire Cozzene.
With a powerful race record matched by a superb pedigree, and siring good looking foals to boot, Gitano Hernando certainly has a lot going for him at stud.
