GREAT WEEKEND FOR KARPAKOVA

GREAT WEEKEND FOR KARPAKOVA
The Northern Guest mare, Karpakova, really made her presence felt this weekend in South African graded stakes results.
She is the granddam of both Variety Club (Gr1 Queen’s Plate) and Knock On Wood (Gr3 London News Stakes).

Remarkably, between the pair of them, Variety Club and Knock On Wood have combined earnings of over R4 000 0000!

Knock On Wood was picking up his first graded stakes win, while Horse of the Year Variety Club was landing his third Gr1 win, and his ninth feature race win overall.

Karpakova, a half-sister to Gr1 winner Secret Rites, is out of Gr1 SA Oaks heroine Novenna.

She herself won once, and was placed ten times. Her daughter La Massine produced Variety Club and Mauritius champion Rhythmically, while another daughter, Kiss Me Kate, is dam of Knock On Wood.

La Massine is one of the few broodmares ever to produce a pair of horses who were named Horse of the Year in two different countries – with Rhythmically and Variety Club respectively.
