Ideal World filly takes high ranking on world stage

Brilliant four-year-old filly Smart Call, a daughter of Mauritzfontein Stud’s blue blooded resident sire Ideal World, is currently one of the highest rated horses in the world.
The Mauritzfontein bred filly, a triple Grade One winner, was given a rating of 119 on the Longines Best Racehorse Rankings –which places the 2016 G1 J&B Met winner just two pounds behind currently world’s number one California Chrome.

Ideal World

The latter, a former US Horse Of The Year and Kentucky Derby winner, is currently favourite to win the G1 Dubai World Cup at the end of the month. California Chrome shares the top spot with Japanese champion Duramente and 2015 G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes hero Postponed, an impressive recent winner of the G3 Dubai City Of Gold.

Smart Call’s rating of 119 places her equal to such G1 winners as Designs On Rome, Chautauqua and Contentment and above such top class performers as Nyquist, Turn Me Loose, and Japonisme.

Ironically, the next best South African bred horse is Legal Eagle (who is by Smart Call’s relative Greys Inn). The latter, winner of the 2016 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and bred by Avontuur, has a rating of 117.

Currently in quarantine and on her way to the 2016 Breeders’ Cup, Smart Call has won four of five outings in 2015-2016, headed by impressive wins in both the G1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes and G1 J&B Met.
In total, the Alec Laird trained filly has won seven of 16 outings and over R3.4 million in stakes.

Her sire Ideal World, a stakes winning son of Kingmambo and Breeders’ Cup champion Banks Hill, has nine yearlings on offer at the National Sale, set to take place in Germiston on April 27-29th.
