Impressive debut winner for Argonaut
The Cheveley Stud based Argonaut had an eye catching debut winner at Vaal racecourse on Tuesday afternoon.
His daughter, Yeoville – who was backed down into favouritism, scored impressively over 1200m first time out.

This Lucky Houdalakis trained filly, who is out of the Polar Falcon mare Nareem, was a R65 000 buy at the 2012 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale  – and Yeoville looks to have been a bargain at the price!

Her sire Argonaut was an exceptional racehorse, who was just once defeated in his career. A champion at two, Argonaut scored scintillating wins in both the Gr1 Golden Horseshoe and Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes at two before an injury sadly curtailed his racing career.
Hopefully, Argonaut can prove the successor to his great sire, Western Winter, who sadly died recently at the age of 21. The sire of over 150 black type horses, Western Winter was champion sire three times, and has been responsible for a host of Grade One winning champions.

Out of the outstanding broodmare Aquasarto, Argonaut is a half-brother to four stakes winners, which include the Gr1 winning classic filly Finest View.

The former Equus Champion’s first crop also includes the highly rated Copybook, as well as recent winner Cassia.

Argonaut stands for a fee of R12 000 in 2013.
