Impressive debut winner for Rock
Klawervlei’s exciting first season sire, Seventh Rock, was represented by an impressive debut winner at Clairwood Park on Easter Sunday.

The Gary and Jackie Joliffe bred colt, Guiness, made a smart winning debut for trainer Dennis Drier and owners Markus and Ingrid Jooste, when he saluted by two lengths over 1000m.

A really handsome and imposing specimen, Guiness clearly had been showing plenty at home, as the colt was backed into start favourite. Out of the Strike Smartly mare Tinder Box, Guiness was a R425 000 purchase from the 2013 Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 2).

Sunday’s winner has a Greys Inn half-sister on offer at this week’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale (Lot 110).

Guiness is the third winner from Seventh Rock’s first crop, which has also produced smart debut winner Captain Rock and stakes filly Seven Grand. The latter is one of 12 runners set to contest Sunday’s Gr2 The Debutante at Greyville.

Currently one of South Africa’s leading first crop sires, Seventh Rock has six lots on offer at this week’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. His draft includes a colt out of a half-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Thunder Dance (Lot 128), a colt out of a granddaughter of Gr2 winner Autumn Lodge (lot 149) and a filly out of a nine time stakes winning relative of world class sprinter Shea Shea (lot 433).

A Grade One winning son of the great racehorse and top sire Rock Of Gibraltar, Seventh Rock is out of champion sprinter Ruby Clipper.
