Impressive debut winner for Silvano
Maine Chance Farms’ champion sire Silvano has enjoyed a purple patch with his 2yos of late.
His daughter Silver Class made a facile 4.25 length winning debut at Turffontein on Sunday, while Wednesday another of the stallion’s juveniles made a winning debut at Greyville.

The Dean Kannemeyer trained Balance Sheet, who raced very green, came from last to first, when landing a maiden juvenile plate over 1600m in the style of a horse going places. Green in running, Balance Sheet produced a fine turn of foot to get up to win by one and a quarter lengths.

Bred by the Riyo Stud, Balance Sheet was a R300 000 buy at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. Out of the Al Mufti mare Vita-Louise, Balance Sheet is from the family of champion filly, and multiple Gr1 winner, Donatella.

He is bred on the same Silvano/Al Mufti which has produced champions Bold Silvano and Kings Gambit.

He is one of four juvenile winners for Silvano this season thus far. Champion Sire in South Africa for 2012-2013, Silvano has another good year, having been represented by 10 stakes winners including the top-class performers Hot Ticket and Power King. He is currently fourth on the general sires list.

The son of Lomitas has a strong representation of 14 lots on sale at next month’s Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale. Silvano’s draft includes a full brother to former Guineas runner up Silver Flyer (Lot 174), a three parts brother to brilliant Silvano colt Power King (Lot 364), and a half-sister to feature race winner Jet Jamboree (Lot 411).
