International success for in-form Inn

Rosedene Stud’s red hot sire Greys Inn struck again on Thursday when his son Forries Waltz picked up his first Dubai success.
Making his first start in over a year (and just his second in Dubai), the four-year-old colt made it four wins from just five outings when he captured the Fujairah Container Terminal Handicap under recently crowned French champion jockey Christophe Soumillon.

Forries Waltz prevailed by a neck in the 1800m handicap, conceding 1kg to runner up Flash Fire, and the Chris Gerber/Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa/Mike de Kock owned colt looks on track for bigger and better things in the season ahead. Forries Waltz stopped the clock in a time of 96.39.

His sire recently made news when his son, the Avontuur bred Legal Eagle (now a warm favourite for the R2.5 million J&B Met) landed last weekend’s G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.
One of more than 40 G1 winners for legendary sire Zabeel, Greys Inn (like Forries Waltz was trained by Mike De Kock), was an Equus Champion in South Africa, where his three G1 wins included the Vodacom Durban July and SA Classic.

Sent to campaign overseas, Greys Inn became a globetrotter of note, picking up the G2 Dubai City Of Gold and placing in such major international features as G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, G1 QE II Cup, and G1 Caulfield Stakes. Retired to stud, Greys Inn has more than made his mark in South Africa, thanks to such G1 winners as Royal Bencher (SA Derby), King Of Pain (Rising Sun Gold Challenge) and the above mentioned Legal Eagle. Greys Inn’s female line has also been in the news of late, with a half sister Good Judgement responsible for Saturday’s G1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes winner Smart Call.

Forries Waltz is also yet another international success story for the Cape bred thoroughbred.
Numerous top class international performers have been bred in the Cape in recent times, such as Crimson Palace, Irridescence, Perfect Promise, Variety Club and Vercingetorix –to name a few, and hopefully the Wicklow Stud bred Forries Waltz can progress further and go on to bigger and better things for his connections.
