July winner in flying form
Rosedene Stud’s July winner and Equus Champion, Greys Inn, has made a flying start to the 2013-2014 season.
Over the past seven days, Greys Inn has been represented by five winners, headlined by the very promising Chekilli.
The latter, bred by the Rosedene Stud, took his tally to two wins from as many starts when he ran out a most impressive winner at Turffontein over 1160m – in the process accounting for some of last season’s top juveniles as he liked.
Chekilli thrashed former Gr1 SA Nursery winner Willow Magic to win by 4.25 lengths, with the likes of Heart Of A Lion, Normanz, Umgiyo, and Jimmi Choo well beaten, and he looks a feature race contender to follow this season!
The Alec Laird trained colt is one of two Greys Inn colts nominated for the Gr3 Graham Beck Stakes to be run on Charity Mile day. The other colt is Gone Baby Gone – who recently won by three and a half lengths, and is held in high regard by champion trainer Mike de Kock.
Other recent winners representing Greys Inn are Mission House, Lady Justice, Stage Girl and Greystone.
An outstanding racehorse, Greys Inn was South Africa’s Equus Champion 3yo Classic Male of 2003.
He won over AUS$1.1 million during his career, with his local wins including the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July, Gr1 SA Derby and Gr1 SA Classic in South Africa, and the Gr3 City Of Gold Stakes in Dubai.
A proven sire, Greys Inn has already come up with the likes of Royal Bencher (SA Derby), Canterbury Tale (Gold Bowl) and King of Pain (Selangor Cup) from his early crops – and the best looks still to come for this magnificent son of Zabeel.
Greys Inn, whose yearlings fetched up to R500 000 in 2013, stands for a 2013 fee of R30 000.
