Klawervlei head the breeders log for 2013-2014
For the first time since 2004, a Cape farm heads the South African breeders list for the recently concluded 2013-2014 racing season.
Klawervlei are officially South Africa’s leading breeders for the past season, finishing the season more than R650 000 clear of log runner up, Summerhill Stud. The latter had previously headed the breeders log for the past nine seasons.
In total, Klawervlei were responsible for 125 winners during the 2013-2014 season, with the farm sending out a total of five stakes winners.
Klawervlei bred horses, who won 181 races, earned over R15.7 million during the season, and the farm’s tally of 2013-2014 stakes winners included the Gr1 winners Hill Fifty Four (J&B Met), Carry On Alice (SA Nursery) and Same Jurisdiction (Thekwini Stakes).
Klawervlei’s success in 2014 has not been limited to local tracks however. Their overseas runners include Vercingetorix and Shea Shea, winners of the Gr1 Jebel Hatta and Gr3 Meydan Sprint respectively.
Klawervlei, in partnership with Arrowfield Stud, were also responsible for the top-class Australian 2yo Time For War. A son of Snitzel, Time For War won three of his six outings this season, and scored impressive victories in both the Gr2 Pago Pago Stakes and Gr2 BRC Sires Produce Stakes.
Cape breeders dominated the 2013-2014 log, with eight of the top ten spots falling to Cape based farms and four of the top five positions on the breeders log going the way of Cape stud farms.
