Klawervlei’s Keeneland purchases
Klawervlei Stud were active buyers at the 2013 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
The ten day sale offers buyers from around the world a chance to acquire world-class bloodstock at varying prices.

The November Sale, which got underway on Tuesday November 5th, continues until November 14th.

Klawervlei’s John Koster acquired some exceptionally well bred mares at the sale. Here is a brief summary of the latest blue blooded mares acquired by Klawervlei:

Lot 465 Sea Glitter – a daughter of champion Holy Bull and the high-class 2yo Sea Jewel, she is a three parts sister to Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo (by Holy Bull), and is also from the family of multiple G1 winner and sire Tiago, as well as Stanwyck (winner of the recent Gr3 Turnback The Alarm Hcp). In foal to world leading sire Awesome Again, sire of the 2013 Preakness Stakes hero Oxbow, Sea Glitter was knocked down for $240 000.

Lot 206 Primrose Hill – a daughter of the great sire, and broodmare sire Giant’s Causeway (also the broodmare sire of Soft Falling Rain). This mare is out of the high-class 2yo Marylebone – winner of the Gr1 Matron Stakes, and a daughter of outstanding US sire Unbridled’s Song. This gray mare, who was sold for $70 000, is in foal to Gr1 Travers Stakes winner Stay Thirsty (a son of champion and leading sire Bernardini).

Lot 1143 Ixora – a proven producer, Ixora is the dam of two winners, one of whom was stakes placed. An unraced daughter of the great sire Dynaformer, Ixora is a half-sister to the dam of G1 winner Mutual Trust (Prix Jean Prat) Ixora’s dam is a stakes placed daughter of legendary sire Nureyev and the G1 winner All At Sea, and this is the family of exciting young Klawervlei sire Twice Over. Sold for $100 000, Ixora is in foal to proven US sire, Successful Appeal.

Lot 805 Observation – a daughter of the late, great Claiborne sire Pulpit, Observation is an unraced half-sister to the top-class racehorse Air Support. She is from a truly great Claiborne family, whose members include legendary filly Ruffian, top sire Icecapade, and this year’s Kentucky Derby hero Orb. Observation, who fetched $90,000, is in foal to the brilliant Bodemeister – winner of the Gr1 Arkansas Derby and second in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

Lot 645 Emirates Lady – is a mare from one of the great families in the stud book. By the late, great Unbridled’s Song (an emerging young broodmare sire), Emirates Lady is out of a Danzig full sister to successful sire Honor Grades. Her second dam is the Broodmare Of The Year, Weekend Surprise – dam of Horse of the Year and leading sire A P Indy, as well as high-class racehorse and sire Summer Squall, and top-class SA sire Tiger Ridge. This is also the family of 2013 Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World. Knocked down for $180 000, Emirates Lady is in foal to Australian superstar, and champion sire, Lonhro.
