16th juvenile winner of the season for Var

30th May 2018

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s bang in-form resident sire Var was at it again at Kenilworth on Tuesday.

The G1 winning son of Forest Wildcat had only 2 runners on the day, but both 2yos made an impression on Tuesday, with Bouvier winning and Cape Nursery entrant Carnage catching the eye when finishing second over 1400m.

Sommerlied

Var was represented by his 16th two-year-old winner of the season when daughter Bouvier made a winning debut over for trainer Dan Katz and owner Hassen Adams.

Bred by Avontuur, the 2yo ran on strongly down the inside to win first time out over 1000m by half a length and she looks well above average.

Bouvier, who is out of the Western Winter mare Jackie O, is bred on the same Var/Western Winter cross as stakes winners Le Var and Winter Passion, as well as G1 Golden Medallion runner up Varallo.

Her sire, once again leading the Sires 2YOs List, could be well represented in the upcoming Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, with Var sons Montego Bay and Carnage both nominated for that Kenilworth feature. (Var filly Carioca being an entry in the Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery on the same day).

William The Silent

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2YOs last season, Var has had another tremendous season this year, with his star performers including G1 South African Fillies Sprint winner Sommerlied and G2 SA Nursery hero William The Silent.
