Maine Chance Farms’ star sire Vercingetorix enjoyed more feature race success on Sunday.
His daughter Tomyris made it three wins from her last five starts when she won Sunday’s World Sports Betting Scarlet Lady (1750m) at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
The Gareth Van Zyl trained four-year-old was given a fine ride by S’Manga Khumalo in Sunday’s feature.
Khumalo kept Tomyris going in the closing stages, as the pair stayed on gamely to hold off Mascherina to win by just over three-parts of a length.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Tomyris has won four of 15 starts, with the filly victorious in two of her last three outings.
All four of Tomyris’ wins thus far have come at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Tomyris, who is out of the Windrush mare Hungry Heart, was a R360 000 purchase from the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
Her outstanding sire is also the sire of 2024 G3 Splashout 2200 winner Cape Eagle, who finished runner up in Sunday’s World Sports Betting Highland Night Cup (Non-Black Type).
Vercingetorix is also responsible for Gran Canaria, who won the third race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2024-2025, Vercingetorix was the Leading Sire by Aggregate at the 2025 National Yearling Sale, where his yearlings made R35.875 million.
