Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont’s leading sire Dynasty had a weekend to remember, with three individual feature race winners to his name, and the champion son of Fort Wood was represented by his 55th individual stakes winner when son Wild Wicket won the Listed Michael Roberts Handicap at Scottsville on Sunday.
Bred by Willem Engelbrecht Jr, the four-year-old gelding made it win number four with a determined neck win over G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Red Chesnut Road in Sunday’s 1750m contest. Former Listed Michaelmas Handicap hero Celtic Captain was another half a length away in third place, with favourite Sun On Africa a well beaten fourt in the R150 000 feature.
Out of the G1 placed mare Firstnightbliss (3rd in the G1 SA Fillies Classic), Wild Wicket is bred on the hugely successful Dynasty/Jallad cross which has also produced the G1 winners Eyes Wide Open, It’s My Turn, Liege, as well as high class gallopers Solid Speed and July runner up Run For It.
The Duncan Howells trained Wild Wicket was a R2 000 000 buy from the 2015 National Yearling Sale.
Dynasty’s other big race winners over the weekend came with sons Eyes Wide Open and Let It Rain winning the G1 Investec Cape Derby and G2 Heineken Cape Stayers respectively.
The four times Equus Outstanding Stallion is having his usual excellent season, and has been represented by 10 black type winners in 2017-2018.
