Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi has been enjoying a purple patch of success of late and the son of End Sweep was represented by another black type winner on Saturday.
His son Graduation Day, bred by Klawervlei Stud, became Trippi’s 68th individual stakes winner when he stormed home to land the Listed Golden Loom Handicap over 1000m on Charity Mile day at Turffontein, leaving the likes of Rivarine, Barrack Street and Trippi’s G1 Golden Horse Casino runner up African Ruler in his wake.
Trained by Joey Soma, Graduation Day has now won six of only 10 outings, with the gelding’s first black type win on Saturday pushing his earnings to R448 500.
He was an R800 000 purchase from the 2012 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Graduation Day is the second son of Trippi to land the Golden Loom, following the brilliant, but ill-fated Trip Tease, who won the race back in 2014.
Champion Sire in South Africa in 2015-2016, Trippi is also sire of the G1 winners Afrikaburn, Deo Juvente, For The Lads, R Heat Lightning, Real Princess, and five time G1 winner Inara.
Trippi, whose progeny also include outstanding fillies Jealous Again, Hammie’s Hooker and Live Life, has three lots on offer at the CTS Ready To Run Sale this month.
