Arc on the cards for Duke’s son

21st Aug 2017

Marmelo, one of two group/graded winners for Drakenstein Stud’s red hot sire Duke Of Marmalade on Sunday, looks likely to contest Europe’s greatest race, the G1 Qatar Prix de’l Arc De Triomphe on October 1st.
The Hughie Morrison trained four-year-old made it group win number two in 2017 when he made most of the running, under a superb ride from Christophe Soumillon, to land the G2 Darley Prix Kergorlay on Sunday.

His owners are now keen to try the consistent colt (he has won or placed in eight of just ten outings) in the Arc.

Duke Of Marmalade could be well represented in upcoming G1 features, with his star son, and G1 Gold Cup winner, Big Orange holding entries in the G1 Corner Group International Irish St Leger, and his recent G2 Sky Classic Stakes winning son Can’thelpbelieving a potential starter in either the G1 Northern Dancer Stakes or G1 Pattison Canadian International later this year.

The son of Danehill is already responsible for a large number of big race winners, with Duke Of Marmalade sired runners already having captured such races as the French Oaks, St Leger, Gold Cup, Premio Lydia Tesio, and German Derby.
