Millstream Farm’s well performed stallion Ato had only one runner at Turffontein on Saturday, but that runner made his presence felt when finishing second in a R350 000 feature.
Ato’s son Chijmes was promoted to second when running a cracking race in the G2 Joburg Spring Challenge, and in the process accounted for feature race winners Infamous Fox, Zouaves, Chimichuri Run, Angel’s Power, and Will Pays.
Bred by the Summerhill Stud, four-year-old Chijmes made headlines last season when he won the Listed Sea Cottage Stakes (defeating subsequent G1 Gbets Cape Derby winner Atyaab), and his latest effort has seen Chijmes’ earnings rise to nearly R400 000.
Out of the Russian Revival mare Sophie’s Choice, Chijmes is one of 23 runners in Ato’s first crops –of which 15 have won.
Ato’s small first crop also includes the very capable Sygone, whose victories include scores in both the Zimbabwe Guineas and Zimbabwe 2000.
Singapore’s Champion Four-Year-Old in 2012, Ato won nine times during his illustrious career, and scored a memorable victory when downing a high-class, international field in the 2012 G1 Krisflyer International Sprint.
