Big weekend for Querari

15th May 2017

Maine Chance Farms’ exciting sire Querari continues to impress as a young stallion of considerable merit and the G1 winning son of Oasis Dream was once again in the headlines this past weekend.
Querari had a South African treble of winners this weekend, with the highlight coming when his 2yo daughter Joking lifted the Listed Dahlia Plate at Fairview on Saturday.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Joking (a R200 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale) was a convincing 1.5 length winner of the Listed Dahlia Plate for trainer Gavin Smith. The consistent two-year-old has now won or placed in four of just five outings and is bred on the same Querari/Silvano cross as G2 The Debutante winner Cosmic Light

Her sire has now produced stakes winners in each of his first three crops to race, with Querari’s current crop of 2yos also including G3 Strelitzia Stakes runner up Made In Hollywood, G1 SA Nursery third Wonderwall, and impressive debut winner Pinnacle Peak.

Querari, whose top offspring include G1 winning filly Querari Falcon and multiple graded winner Kangaroo Jack, also had a fine strike rate at Kenilworth on Sunday.
He had but three runners, and enjoyed a pair of winners, with his other runner Quarllo finishing third. Querari’s Sunday double included  La Favourari, who made it win number six when making all to score over 1000m, and Wedgewood, who was successful over 1400m.

Querari, who shares his sire Oasis Dream with the popular young sires Showcasing and Power, continues to find favour with buyers in sales rings around the country, with a filly by him fetching R1.6 million at the recent National Yearling Sale.
