Big weekend for Trippi!

23rd Jan 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s reigning champion sire Trippi enjoyed another remarkable weekend, with his progeny shining both on the racetrack and in the sales ring.
Trippi, whose son Gold Standard lines up in Saturday’s R5 000 000 G1 Sun Met, made history on Saturday when his son Charles, consigned by Drakenstein Stud, was knocked down to MV Magnier for R6 000 000 on the first day of the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sales.

This makes the Trippi colt, alongside his fellow Drakenstein Stud bred Silver Coin, the joint top priced yearling ever sold in South Africa.

Trippi’s top priced filly, a daughter of Gibraltar Blue, was knocked down to Sabine Plattner for R2.2 million, while a colt by Trippi was sold to Justin Casse for an even R2 000 000.

Trippi’s progeny proved in huge demand at the Premier Sale, with five of his yearlings fetching upwards of R1 000 000. The son of End Sweep ended the two day auction as the sales’ third top sire by aggregate, with his 13 lots grossing a total of R16 475 000 and averaging a handsome R1 267 307.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016 also had a good weekend on the tracks with Trippi’s daughter Love To Boogie maintaining her unbeaten record.
The Sabine Plattner owned filly made it two wins from as many outings when scoring over 1200m. Love To Boogie, a R550 000 buy from the 2015 National Yearling Sale, had previously won first time out when successful over six furlongs.

Just a few days earlier, another Plattner owned daughter of Trippi, Silk Trip, bolted home to score (second time out) by four and a half lengths –and she too looks a filly with a very bright future ahead of her.

Trippi is enjoying another great season in 2016-2017, with his black type winners including graded winners Gold Standard, Live Life and Trip To Heaven. The latter, who is unbeaten this season, rates as a leading contender for Saturday’s G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship.
