Boland Stud’s Captain Al filly a stand out!

18th Jun 2018

Boland Stud will be offering the only daughter of champion sire Captain Al at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale.

This breath-taking filly (Lot 93) is bred to be anything, with her winning dam being a Rich Man’s Gold half-sister to the Gr.1 J&B Met winner Martial Eagle and dual Algoa Cup winner Nebula. Her second dam is Gr.3 Southern Cross Stakes third Seeking The Wind –a sister in blood to Gr.1 SA Classic winner Divine Jury.

Lot 93

The filly on offer is a very close relative of the Captain Al sired Redcarpet Captain, who won the Gr.3 Protea Stakes in 2015 for owner Brian Burnard. Her third dam is a full-sister to the dam of Gr.3 Winter Classic winner Redcarpet Style. This is also the same family as Equus Champion Cherry On The Top – who had a Captain Al colt make R4.75 million at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Other Gr.1 winners and or champions hailing from this female line include July winner and Horse Of The Year Classic Flag, star filly Lady Windermere, Gr.1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge hero National Spirit and Sword Dancer winner Broadway Flyer.

Captain Al, South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2014-2015 and eight times Champion Sire of 2yos, has a remarkable record with his daughters. To date, Captain Al is the sire of nine Gr.1 winning daughters, with his star females including champions All Is Secret, Carry On Alice, Cloth Of Cloud and Captain’s Lover. Captain Al is also responsible for current filly star Snowdance, whose wins include both the Gr.1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas and Gr.1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes this season and this season’s Daisy Fillies Guineas winner Fiorella.

This filly’s first three dams are by Rich Man’s Gold, Jallad and Northfields –all top-class broodmare sires, with Rich Man’s Gold damsire of such Gr.1 winners as Athina, Wagner, Brave Mary, Coral Fever, Whistle Stop and Triple Crown winning sire Louis The King (as well as recent Merchants winner Sniper Shot). This filly is bred on a similar cross to the ones that produced Gr.1 winners Carry On Alice, All Is Secret, Tap O’ Noth, The Secret Is Out and Cloth Of Cloud.
