The Klawervlei Stud bred Captain Lars picked up his sixth British victory when successful at Chelmsford on Thursday.
The gelded son of Klawervlei’s deceased champion sire Captain Al romped to a four length win over 1200 metres, despite his rein breaking a furlong out –and clearly the eight-year-old remains in good heart.

Trained by Derek Shaw, and racing for owner Chris Hamilton, Captain Lars was a high-class performer in South Africa, where he won the Listed Drum Star Handicap, beating talented runners Halve The Deficit, Killua Castle and Pessoa.
Captain Lars, a R1 400 000 purchase from the 2011 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is one of ten runners produced by Pivotal’s close relative Polar Charge. The latter is also dam of Equus Champion and G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion winner Always In Charge, who contests the upcoming G2 WSB Cape Merchants.
A full-sister to Captain Lars was knocked down for R1 700 000 to MV Magnier at the 2017 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.
His win also continued the great run of success that his late, great sire Captain Al has enjoyed this season.
Captain Al runners not only captured the recent G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship, but also ran 1-2 in the G3 Cape Classic.
His daughter Snowdance is favourite for the upcoming G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas, while sons Search Party, Always In Charge and Sergeant Hardy are leading contenders for the same day’s G2 WSB Cape Merchants.
