Mauritzfontein’s G1 winning resident stallion Byword is from an outstanding family and the 2010 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner received yet another boost to his female line at Deauville on Tuesday.
Two-year-old Delaware (by Frankel) won impressively at just the second time of asking –just days after his half-sister Environs had lifted the Listed Prix de Bagatelle.
The pair were produced by the winning Oasis Dream mare Zatsfine –a half-sister to Byword himself.
Delaware, a ¾ brother to G2 Prix Eugene Adam winner Finche, made amends for a fourth place on debut when romping home to score by two and a half lengths over six furlongs.
His second dam is the outstanding broodmare Binche, dam not only of Byword and Finche but also four time G1 winner Proviso.
A daughter of Dansili, Proviso earned over $1.7 million with her nine wins including all of the G1 Frank E.Kilroe Mile, Just A Game Stakes, G1 Diana Stakes and G1 First Lady Stakes.
Delaware holds an entry for next year’s G1 Investec Derby.
