Ridgemont’s inform stallion Canford Cliffs has come up with a top-class broodmare daughter in the form of Bumbasina.
The latter made her mark in both the sales ring and on the track this past week.
On Thursday, Bumbasina’s top-class daughter Amelia’s Jewel was knocked down for AUS$3.8 million at the Chairman’s Sale and on Saturday Bumbasina’s three-year-old son Bosustow captured the G3 Gold Coast Guineas.
A daughter of Siyouni, Amelia’s Jewel was a GI winner of the WATC Northerly Stakes and her win in the Group II MVRC Stock Stakes beating Pride of Jenni in course record time stamped her as exceptional.
She was sold at Thursday’s sale to Tom Magnier, with Amelia’s Jewel set to begin her career with a visit to Justify.
In total, Amelia’s Jewel won ten races, from 1000m to 1800m and earned more than AUS$4 000 000 in stakes.
Her half-brother Bosustow (by Blue Point) came home at a rate of knots to win the RL $3m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas before heading to New Zealand where he finished second in the Group 1 BCD Group Sprint (1400m).
Having his first start since his trip across the Tasman, Bosustow jumped away well from the gates and under Josh Parr went forward to sit in a mid-field position.
With some strong pace upfront, Parr bided his time before the field turned for home where he forced his way through a gap to make his run. From there, Bosustow pulled clear to go and win by six lengths.
The stakes placed Bumbasina, who is in foal to Zoustar, won twice and finished runner up in the Listed Ruby Stakes and third in the Listed Navigation Stakes.
Her five time G1 winning sire Canford Cliffs also made his presence felt in Zimbabwe on Saturday when his son Action Zone won the Listed Castle Tankard.
