Highlands Stud, part of Ridgemont, have acquired the Southern Hemisphere covering rights of Canford Cliffs (IRE) to join the farm’s Stallion roster in 2018.
The son of Tagula has been standing at Coolmore Stud since he retired to stud in 2012.
Trained by Richard Hannon, Canford Cliffs was an exceptional racehorse, whose seven wins (from 11 outings) included five G1 races-in a row. His five G1 winning streak included the Irish 2000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes, Lockinge Stakes and Queen Anne Stakes and he ended the season with a runner up finish to Frankel in the G1 Sussex Stakes.
Described by trainer Richard Hannon Sr as “the best I have trained”, Canford Cliffs also won the G2 Coventry Stakes by six lengths, over subsequent G1 winner Extension, as a 2yo.
He has 7 stakes winners to his credit, including group winners Most Beautiful, Painted Cliffs, Al Jazi and Princess Asta, while another daughter, Harlequeen ran third in the G1 Investec Oaks and G1 Darley Irish Oaks.
Canford Cliffs, whose son Salouen was runner up in the G1 Prix Jean-Lac Lagardere last year, has been represented by three runners in South Africa, including Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby winner Dorset Noble, with all three having won at least once.
