Klawervlei Stud’s late, great sire Captain Al was responsible for the sales topping colt at Friday evening’s Klawervlei Farm Sale.
His unnamed bay son (Lot 90) was knocked down to Des Gonsalves for R1 000 000 to head the proceedings.
The sales topping colt, who was produced by Equus Champion Consensual, is a half-brother to three winners notably Equus Champion 3YO Filly, and G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas winner, Just Sensual.
The Captain Al colt is also bred on very similar lines to the Captain Al sired G3 Sycamore Sprint winner Myfunnyvalentine, who also hails from this family.
His champion sire, whose multiple G1 winning son and current Klawervlei sire Captain Of All is a previous Klawervlei Farm Sale graduate, was also responsible for a filly (Lot 24) who was sold to John Freeman for R500 000.
A daughter of Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi also proved popular –with Lot 120 being knocked down to Ralphs Racing for R650 000. This filly, a full-sister to two multiple winners, is the third foal produced by Street Cry’s G3 KC Fillies Mile winning daughter Hollywoodboulevard.
Of the 126 lots catalogued for the sale 121 were sold for a gross total of R9 306 000, with the yearlings averaging R76 909.
Once again, the Farm Sale was well attended with buyers from all over the country in attendance.
Graduates of the 2018 Klawervlei Farm Sale qualify for a R200 000 race due to be run at Durbanville in 2019 over 1250m.
