Varsfontein Stud’s proven sire Judpot and his relatives continue to make waves, both locally and internationally.
Last weekend, Judpot’s son Sniper Shot downed some top older gallopers to land the G2 Post Merchants, while on Friday, Judpot’s close relative Alpha Centauri put up an awesome performance to take the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Winner of the recent G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas, Alpha Centauri (by Mastercraftsman) stormed home to post a six length win in Friday’s one mile event –and set a new course record in the process.
Once given her head, the Irish challenger bounded clear for a hugely impressive six-length verdict in a course-record time, with Threading coming through to beat Veracious to the runner-up spot.
Richard Hannon’s shock Newmarket Guineas heroine Billesdon Brook was a creditable fourth, but Teppal, winner of the French Guineas for David Simcock, finished down the field.
Alpha Centauri, now a winner of four of her seven outings, took her earnings to £576 894 with Friday’s devastating win. The filly may now be aimed at the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile –a race won twice by Judpot’s great dam Miesque.
She is out of the Rahy mare Alpha Lupi, whose French Oaks/French 1000 Guineas winning dam East Of The Moon is a half-sister to Judpot.
The latter, also a half-brother to breed shaping stallion Kingmambo, has enjoyed another memorable season in 2017-2018, with his notable runners including not only Sniper Shot but leading Vodacom Durban July fancy Coral Fever.
The latter won both the G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge and G2 Colorado King Stakes this season and has already banked more than R3.4 million in prize money.
Judpot, whose dam is also granddam of 2018 French Derby winner Study Of Man, has two lots on offer at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale.
