Sandown Stud’s resident stallion Pathfork has enjoyed a tremendous run of success this season, and the champion son of Distorted Humor struck yet again at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday.
Pathfork’s gelded two-year-old son Main Defender made the perfect start to his career when he made a winning debut on Wednesday.
The Tienie Prinsloo trained Main Defender powered home down the centre of the track, under Chase Maujean, to win the Download The Race Card Online www.goldcircle.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (1100m) cosily by a length.
Bred by Jagessar Limited, Main Defender is out of the Judpot mare Alessia.
Main Defender was an R140 000 buy from the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
This season, he joins the promising Warrior Of Royalty as a two-year-old winner for former Irish champion two-year-old Pathfork.
From the same female line as legendary sire Redoute’s Choice, Pathfork’s flagbearers this season include repeat G2 Allied Steelrode -Onamission Charity Mile winner Bingwa, G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes winner Royal Victory and Listed Secretariat Stakes hero Jimmy Don. The latter went close to landing a G1 feature when finishing second in the recent G1 WSB SA Classic.
His inform sire Pathfork has a single lot on offer at the 2023 National Yearling Sale -a colt (Lot 390) whose dam won six times and ran third in the Listed Olympic Duel Stakes.
