Double for dominant Dynasty

14th Sep 2017

Highlands Stud’s leading sire Dynasty, recently named Equus Outstanding Stallion for a fourth time, has made a cracking start to the 2017-2018 racing season and the former Horse Of The Year’s good form continued when Dynasty had a winning double at Kenilworth’s mid-week meeting.

Jackson

His double included a very impressive debut win from the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Ontenderhooks, who ran on smartly to win convincingly over 1200m yesterday for in-form trainer Candice Bass-Robinson.

Out of the Machiavellian mare Awaited, Ontenderhooks is the latest debut winner to represent Dynasty, whose other recent first-time winners include Sir David Baird, Greek Fire, and Yamoto.

The 3yo Ontenderhooks is a three-parts sister to 3 winners, including Listed Oaks Trial runner up Withbatedbreath.

Her sire’s second winner at Kenilworth yesterday came in the form of the regally bred Made To Conquer, who broke his maiden for Cape champion trainer Justin Snaith over 1600m. Closely inbred to Sadler’s Wells and out of former Equus Champion Festive Occasion, Made To Conquer was bred by Michael De Broglio.

Futura

Dynasty, whose daughters Lady In Black and Just Sensual both won Equus Awards recently, has an exceptional crop of three-year-olds representing him this season, headed by last season’s G1 winning two-year-olds Lady In Black and Eyes Wide Open.

The champion’s growing legacy looks set to continue with a plethota of sons at stud to his name, including Cape based stallions Futura, Jackson and Legislate.
