Duke Of Marmalade mare makes waves at October Sale

11th Oct 2018

Drakenstein Stud’s increasingly successful resident stallion and former Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade made headlines as a broodmare sire on Wednesday’s session of the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 1.

Duke Of Marmalade mare Wannabe Better, herself a high class performer on the track, is the dam of a Galileo filly (Lot 189) who was knocked down to the Cheveley Park Stud for 1 200 000 guineas at Wednesday’s auction. The victorious buyer Chris Richardson commented off his purchase, “It’s a really wonderful family and the sort of pedigree we’re looking for at the top end.”

Wannabe Better, herself a ¾ sister to G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Wannabe Grand, won four races with her victories including the G3 Ballycorus Stakes and Listed Clodovil EBF Garnet and Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes respectively.

She is one of 13 group/graded winning fillies sired by Duke Of Marmalade whose other notable daughters include classic winning champion Simple Verse, French Oaks heroine Star Of Seville, classic winner and G1 star Sound Of Freedom, dual Oaks runner up Venus De Milo, and group 3 winning champion Temple Grafin.

Duke Of Marmalade has two lots on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, including The Sandwich Man (Lot 91) –a half-brother to star filly and G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winner Takingthepeace.

His four lots on offer at November’s CTS Ready To Run Sale include a half-brother (Lot 28) to G3 winner Tippuana Moon and a colt (Lot 91) whose dam is a winning sister to Met winner La Fabulous.
